Elsevier Reviewer Workshop

-       How to be a good reviewer – support and guidance on peer review

Andrea Hoogenkamp-OBrien (Elsevier, The Netherlands)

As publishers we want to facilitate increasing the pool of qualified reviewers to help both the existing reviewers (give support and guidance to peer review) and the editors (who face the challenge of recruiting reviewers). In addition, we want to support young scientists who are eager to build a network and become actively involved as reviewers. Before the workshop, participants are asked to review an original manuscript, to complete the journals reviewer checklist, and to submit their report to the workshop tutors (the publisher and the editor). It is important that the participants review a manuscript that is both controversial and in their area of expertise. During the workshop itself the reviews are discussed following a brief general introduction on reviewing, and the original fate of the paper (actual reviews and final article, if accepted for publication) is disclosed.

Elsevier Author Workshop

-       How to Write a Great Research Paper, and Get it Accepted by a Good Journal

Andrea Hoogenkamp-OBrien(Elsevier, The Netherlands)

Knowing the best way of structuring your paper when writing it, and the most appropriate journal to send it to, really helps in getting your paper accepted. Also understanding how editors and publishers think and what they expect, and knowing how the peer review process works, is an invaluable insight into the publishing process.
