The European Congress on Biotechnology can without a doubt be described as one of the most established events for academic and industrial biotechnologists not just in Europe, but worldwide.


The 16th occurence of this biennial event, which attracts more delegates each consecutive time it is run, will take place this summer in the beautiful and historic city of Edinburgh, Scotland from 13-16 July, 2014.

The congress is organised by the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB). Established in 1978, the EFB are Europe's non-profit federation of National Biotechnology Associataions, Learned Societies, Universities, Scientific Institutes, Biotech Companies and Individual Biotechnologists working to promote biotechnology throughout Europe and beyond.


The scientific programme is designed to cover a multitude of sections on biotechnology, including:

   · Environmental and Green Biotechnology
   · Microbial Physiology
   · Microbial Synthetic and Systems Biology
   · Applied Biocatalysis (Including industrial systems and synthetic biology)
   · Industiral Biotechnology
   · Biochemical Engineering
   · Medical Biotechnology

This event is especially meaningful to both AFOB and EFB in that both federations will be signing an MOU during ECB16 (July 15). Also, delegates from both federations will be discussing collaboration plans for the development and prosperity of world's biotechnology.
