Condolence to Professor Miranda Yap
Dear AFOB members,
We are sad to inform you that Professor Miranda Yap, former Vice President of AFOB, passed away on the 14th of October, 2015 at her age of 67.
Professor Yap was a well-known professor of Chemical and Bio-molecular Engineering at National University of Singapore, and the Executive Director of Bio-processing Technology Institute at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research of Singapore. She was one of the top biotechnology scientists in Singapore. Also, she helped establish Bio-processing Technology Unit (BTU) in 1990’s which later named as Bio-processing Technology Centre (BTC) in 1995 as a National research center for bio-processing technology with Professor Yap as the Director. Yap is the only female scientist and second Singaporean to be elected to the United States National Academy of Engineering as a Foreign Associate. In November 2006, Professor Yap served as Executive Director of A*STAR Graduate Academy (A*GA) focusing on talent management and development in collaboration with the Imperial College London.
Especially her works and contributions in cell culture technology has brought great development in the field.
